The State Of Local Business In 2021: A Sneak Peak At The Effects Of COVID-19

It’s been exactly one year since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the way local businesses have adopted digital solutions has changed.

We surveyed small and medium businesses around the world to see how business owners are meeting their evolving digital marketing needs.

The Effects Of COVID-19 On Local Business

Every business in the world has felt the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, but small, local businesses have been disproportionately affected.

Over 61% of local businesses surveyed have been negatively impacted by the pandemic. Temporary closures, lay-offs, asset sales, and accessing government-led financial assistance are just a few of the many challenges they have faced over the past year.

Businesses Are Adopting Technology

However, local businesses are adapting quickly to the changes in their local markets and business climates by adopting new technology solutions.

In fact, 72% of responding local businesses have adopted new digital tools and solutions since
the start of the pandemic.

On top of that, 92% have websites and 55% of those sites are equipped with e-commerce capabilities, appointment scheduling software, or both.

41% of respondents with websites report launching or significantly improving their sites since the start of the pandemic.

There's Still Work To Be Done

Local businesses don’t have to combat these new and evolving challenges, alone.

Since the start of the pandemic, businesses are most frequently adopting remote communication, social media marketing, and online presence tools.

33% of our responding businesses reported relying on their local digital marketing experts for tools and solutions more frequently since the pandemic began.

This means that if you are in the remaining 67%, you may soon be losing business to your competitors. Utilizing a professional digital marketing team allows you to see real results by utilizing their expertise and experience. Not only that, but they can provide tools and solutions to save you tons of time and money – something every local business needs in the wake of the pandemic.

If you’re part of the 33% and not seeing the results you deserve, we have good news for you too.

You may rely on out-dated traditional advertising methods like print ads, coupon mailers, or even sidewalk signs hoping customers will eventually find you simply because you have a great product or service.

While this may work to attract a trickle of customers into your business, there is an easier and more effective way.
